Have Hope in 2017

“You can get excited about the future. The past won’t mind.” – Hillary DePiano

Lets be honest, this year was hard on a lot of people. Politically, personally, socially, and health wise made 2016 rough. Most people are looking to 2017 as a fresh start and hopefully an end to some of the worlds troubles. It is this optimistic view that most have been holding on to and the hope that 2016 was just a bad year in our past.

There was a part of me that thought that is doesn’t matter what year it is, tragedies happen and that is just life. Just because there will be a 7 instead of a 6 after the 201 doesn’t mean that life is just going to change like that. I thought there will still be bad people in the world who wont change the way they are for anyone. This election highlighted that for me.

But then I realized that getting excited and hoping for something is what keeps us going every day. It is what drives us out of bed and it is what pushes us to work harder. If we don’t have any hope for the future then we would do nothing and this world would not flourish the way it does. I think it is the best thing to hope for the future, the past is not going to care. It is time to look ahead and focus on what ones future can be.

So, here’s to 2017, here’s to a new year and our futures. Here’s to being excited about what we can do and what we have always wanted to do. 2016 will be behind us and it will hopefully just be a reminder of the lessons we have learned. Each year should teach you something about yourself, you should evolve as a person, never stay the same. Hopefully in 2017 those lessons wont be so harsh.

  1. Hope is a wonderful thing. It’s what keeps me out of despair even when things around me are chaotic. I am definitely looking forward to 2017 and applying some of what I’ve learned to better position myself for where I’m headed. Thanks for the article.
